An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a personalized learning plan created to support your child’s unique needs at school. It’s designed to help your child grow — not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and physically, too.
The IEP is built by a team that includes you, your child’s teachers, school specialists, and sometimes your child. Together, you’ll talk about your child’s strengths, the areas where they need extra support, and the best ways to help them reach their goals.
An IEP can include things like:
- Learning goals that fit your child’s abilities and interests
- Classroom supports or accommodations (like extra time on assignments or sensory breaks)
- Services such as speech, occupational, or physical therapy
- Ways the school will measure and share your child’s progress
Your child’s IEP is reviewed every year, but you can ask for changes anytime you feel something isn’t working or your child’s needs have shifted.
Most importantly, the IEP is a partnership — a way for families and schools to work together so every child feels supported, included, and capable of success.
